As a part of our course work, we were set the task to research and create our own album digipak and magazine poster/advert to publicise the music/music video for the song chosen.
Most album covers tend to have close ups of the
artists face which promotes them and what they and their music is about. The
use of this technique creates a bond between the audience and artist as well as
making the album appear more personal. Direct address on the album cover also
creates a connection between the artist and audience and furthermore convincing
them to purchase their album. The uses of colour and facial expression in the
album cover helps intrigue niche audiences for their album.
A album doesn't necessarily have to be of an artists face, it can be of symbols, settings and colours that link the music or artist in some way.

The aim to creating an album poster to promote a song
and put in a magazine is simply to persuade people to purchase the
album/single. It’s expected to follow similar colour schemes to the album so
its recognizable. The language in the poster should be short and declarative
sentences, stating basic feature of the album and information required about
release to encourage urgency to purchase before it sells out. A typograph is a
key feature in an album poster where the font of the poster should be the same
as font of digipak and music video to create cohesion between the 3 products.
Album cover and magazine posters purpose is to make the album recognizable when
seen in shops or online. Without an album cover, the artist heavily relies on their
name in order to sell singles/albums. These 2 promotional techniques, especially magazine adverts aren't used much anymore due to the increase in technology and internet sources but I have annotated some previous examples below to show similarities, differences, codes and conventions.
