Location Research

Location Scouting:

Myself and Michelle Tran have created a set idea of what we want from our music video and how we want it to look. Firstly, we had to start the search looking for a dance studio as we knew we would have to get permission as our school didn’t have one and would need to do so in good time. Ideally, the studio would need to be local as all cast members would have to get there and have a mirror wall as we feel we could be more creative with filming and be able to use a wider range of shot sizes and angles.

We began our search online and emailed several places and waited eagerly for a response. One studio didn’t get back to us, therefore narrowing down our decision between .. and … (compare studios, why and add photos)

Our next hunt was for a theatre with a stage. Again, it would need to be somewhere easily accessible and affordable. We would preferably want it to be special and have lighting system we could use so that our video would look as high quality as possible. We were suggested Norden Farm as previous media students have used it before and come out with excellent footage. This would be perfect for us as it is spacious so that the girls had room to dance and allow more room to film to make the performance look as realistic as possible.

As these sites would possibly include costs, the other locations would need to be casual but effective. We decided that we wanted to have a shot of our protagonist, Bella dancing at home to show her love and dedication to dance. Michelle’s loft would be perfect for these shot as it has everything already laid out such as beds and wardrobes, we would only need to tweak the room to meet our requirements. The loft is out of the way and therefore we couldn’t be disturbed during feeling and wouldn’t interfere in other people’s business which means we would film quickly and stick to time scales. (2x photos of the loft)

When analysing the song and lyrics, the word ‘downtown’ starts several verses and stands out me to as a key part. Therefore, we wanted to include an outdoor shot in the town or street at night to make the street lamps pop. We would have to make sure where we film is safe and well-lit without effecting our footage. In Maidenhead, in the high street there are fluorescent lamp posts which would tie the convention of bright lights in a music video of this genre. I think they would create amazing shadows and reflections on Bella’s face and body whilst dancing and ‘letting go’.
