An independent record label is an organization that operates without the funding of major record labels, therefore Jerry Folk is funded by himself and other small investors. This is how many commercial bands and musical acts being their careers independently.

It’s harder to make a name for yourself when you are independent, especially when you have to do a lot for yourself, however this means that Jerry Folk can make his own profile without the influence of others and he can also make his own decisions regarding his music etc. and it’s this ability that makes Folk so interesting and original. Also, although he doesn’t make much money, get gets to take home a lot of profit to keep producing because he doesn’t owe anyone any money.
